I'm a firm believer that all timeless records have one elusive, yet key ingredient, that is a kind of pure form of intention. A motivation that is very clear but is also completely disregarding of everyone else. It's important to know that if there were no other albums made in 2009, then this album would still sound just the same and brilliantly the lads who made it would be oblivious to that fact. The cherry on that cake is that this album is the aural equivalent of having your hand nailed to a chair by a shoe but in a good way. A really good way. A way that you wouldn't change.

Honestly.

I bought this based on the good reviews. The album seems to be made by a computer. Loops that change pitch. 2 tracks (2 + 5) that agitate you like bad Chemical Brothers. This album has no soul or human touch. It's boring. Check out Tangerine Dream for real electronic music, this is how a computer makes albums. Not recommended!

Okay if you do not like vocals and song structure - I do.

As with most of this kind of music, the basic elements are rhythmically and melodically simple to the point of banality, but the magic lies in how multiple layers of sound are superimposed, woven and morphed into each other to create a hypnotic complexity with an irresistible forward motion. A perfect gem.

Instrumental
10 min songs
all slow builders
constant drone / wall of noise / absolutely not one break (even between songs)
Very uplifting
lots of layers to pick out on multiple listens
extremely trancey and soothing yet thumping at the same time.

similar in my collection to Spiritualised live and My Bloody Valentine (but am sure there are better examples of similarities).
Buy if you like eclectic, electric, lack of vocals, long building songs.
