In the hinterland between a full album sandwich, this 1,000 only limited edition EP is a very welcome filling of tasty morsels. I do think we could have been spared the "Under Milkwood" sound collage at Track 6 though. That is off-the-map and not in a good way. However, negatives aside, The other five tracks are more than satisfying and with a couple of real fine standouts. I will leave that to the personal taste of others to determine which songs they are! Above all, this short collection of new songs is a definite grower. Like "I'll Be Lightning" a first listen sounds like good stuff though business as usual and doesn't pack an immediate punch. Subsequent listening reveals that charismatic Liam Finn magic and he is clearly the uneasy saviour of creative, experimental pop-rock. Actually, it is unfair to even categorise him. But he is more than halfway to greatness already. It would have been a definite five stars if not for the completely unnecessary track 6.
This was one of the best discoveries of the year for me. Eliza-Jane takes this up a whole level in her great harmonies. Songs are haunting and catchy - as you would expect from a Finn. I can't wait for more from these two.
