I had high hopes that this would keep the Starlings away from the mealworms and let the Robin get a chance well it sort of worked as I only get a couple of Starlings and I have seen the Robin get his share. It is almost a seed feeder but with two different types of perch which suits small birds better. There is also a tray so that any mealworms pulled out by the birds get caught on the tray rather than fall to the ground; the tray has drainage holes so it does not get all soggy. The actual plastic main body is very made of a very thin material and it will probably not last more than this season I will however update this next year if I am wrong. It is easy to assemble only needing the tray to be twisted on there being a couple of notches and grooves to locate. In fact the only thing that could be improved is the way the hanging loop fixes to the main body through a couple of small slots cut into the plastic this allows rain to run down the loop and into the main container and the mealworms, this is no trouble with mealworms, the intended use but if you use it as a seed feeder the seed would get wet.
The starlings are too clever for this it only took them a couple of days to empty it in seconds, I don't object to feeding starlings but I would like to give other birds a chance, I have now abandoned this one and am trying the Gardman Adjustable Small Bird Feeder.
