'From Elvis In Memphis' Legacy Edition by Elvis Presley
on 18 January 2018
This 2-disc version of `From Elvis In Memphis' sees it paired with `Back In Memphis'. (Both LP's were derived from Elvis's celebrated 1969 recording sessions in Memphis's American Studios). Leftovers and mono singles taped at those sessions are also included. This double-disc release is terrific - the sound is crystal clear and has a warmth that enhances the rawness and emotionality that were key to the original album. When released back in the day, these recordings undoubtedly benefited from a contrast effect: that Elvis's singing wasn't as technically pristine as it had been 1960-61 - and the middling quality of songs like 'It Keeps Right On a-Hurtin', 'This Is The Story and 'A Little Bit of Green' - were overlooked in an outpouring of relief that The King had at last recorded some serious music. But time had caught up with Elvis - he was older and needed to embrace more mature genres than the teen ballads and twangy-guitar pop of the early 1960's. This is an extremely tasteful remastering project, it represents great value and the enormity of Elvis's talent is plain for anyone to hear.
