STANDING ROOM ONLY was the title of an album that was strongly rumoured for release back in the 1970's but wasn't. The album that never was then became known as the 'lost album'. The same title was to be given to the award winning 1972 concert documentary but the film makers eventually settled for ELVIS ON TOUR.
The FTD label has now cleverly brought back the title for this new release. And it's a fabulous package with the usual stunning presentation we've come to expect from this great label. And the content of this album matches the glitzy presentation. But why use the same cover shot as the Madison Square Garden live album???
The songs are a mixed bag of ballad, rock, and country. Though we may know some or all the official recordings like BURNING LOVE, SEPARATE WAYS, or ALWAYS ON MY MIND - all fabulous studio recordings of course - the real attraction are the outtakes and the studio banter between Elvis and his band. And listening to Elvis going through several takes on WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE, SEPARATE WAYS, IT'S A MATTER OF TIME among others made the album price worthwhile. Some unreleased live tracks lifted from 1972 concerts are also included here.
If you're an Elvis fan, I recommend you add this release to your collection while it is still available.
A great album with studio and live material from Elvis in his prime. Features great rock and roll songs like 'burning love' and 'proud mary', as well as his greatest ballad, 'always on mind' and a funky 'never been to spain'. Comes with a beautiful booklet with lots of info and photos. Excellent value for money.
