But then it isn't meant to be. The title is 'Creating the Lord of The Rings Symphony' so the reviewer who found that it had been 'edited' from 2hrs to 50mins is mistaken. It is though a good succinct documentary of the creation of Howard Shore's symphony and that is why I give it 5 stars. My motto? - Always fully check the item you're going to buy. It saves on disappointment later!

It's great to hear the epic score of the LOTR interpreted for a live audience. However, almost criminally the DVD runs only 50 minutes, not the full 2 hours of the actual concert. Ironically, Shore in an interview ironically explains how difficult it was to edit the 11 hours of film music from the films into a 2 hour concert piece. This of course makes you wonder who then decided to edit this to such a short DVD! DVD's can hold in excess of 3 hours of video... so there's no physical reason for shortening it.
To make matters worse there are some excellent interview insights from the composer Howard Shore stupidly edited into the concert footage rather than being seperate. Why couldn't it just be a menu option.
On the up-side the music is spectacular, and wonderful to hear it in a concert setting.
I only wish they'd not interrupted the concert, and not edited the concert.

I was a little disappointed in this DVD. As previously mentioned, it is too short (I failed to check the running time - who does these days?). In addition, there are no extra features on the disc. I was expecting more background as to how this music was created, some input from Peter Jackson, some features of the music being recorded to the tape, interviews etc.

Howard Shore was 'wooden' to say the least in his short interruptions!

The music, however, is epic so an extra star for that.

A "must" for all the LOTR fans. It puts you directly into Trilogy and much more, thanks to the producers and the Amazon.
