Caballe had perhaps the most beautiful voice of her generation. This set is perfect for fans and those who are unsure about opera. A collection of some of the best singing you will ever hear, demonstrating just why she was perhaps the greatest lirico spinto soprano of the 20th century. Her musicality, effortless legato combined with her heavenly pianissimo's and unequalled breath control are always a thrill. In her prime, and most of the recordings on this set demonstrate this perfectly, there was no one equal to her sheer vocal beauty and interpretation.
I can't recommend this highly enough.

It was Freddy Mercury's duet of Barcelona with Montserrat Caballé that drew me to this performer and the ICON collection is a fine introduction to a superb singer. I confess that prior to this I had no knowledge of Ms Caballé but I figured the price of the set (GBP10) was not too much to pay to find out more.
What I found was a great collection of classical music featuring the works of Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini and Verdi to name but four plus some of the world's finest orchestras and tenors including the superlative Placido Domingo.
Even if you are not a classical devotee, let this be an introduction to one of the world's finest sopranos - you will not be disappointed. If you are not sure this Box Set will fulfill your expectations, then take advantage of the previews of all 4 discs offered by Amazon.
I first came across Montserrat Caballé singing Barcelona with Freddie Mercury, so decided to read up about her. She has an astonishing voice, so no surprise to find out that she was an opera singer. This box set offers a decent selection of performances at a bargain price, it has some beautiful tracks which currently can be heard on amazon's sound samples.
I think it makes an excellent and inexpensive introduction to her music, thoroughly recommended.
