Koopmann and his band of singers and players present a thoroughly convincing and enjoyable reading of this inexhaustible work. There can be no ideal recommendation, but this is as good as any and far better than most.
The style of playing is authentic but not in the least artificial. The singing and soloists are a delight. The recording excellent. This conductor always carries conviction and applies himself to each new challenge with insight and sensitivity.
Thoroughly recommended - personally (after having loved the work for over 50 years) this would be my 'Desert Island' choice of Messiah!

The best recording ever. I've been listening to several recordings of Handel The Messiah and also played in a symphony orchestra performing this work so I have frame of reference. And this recording is the nearest it should sound. I highly recommend this.

To have The Sixteen work together with Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque (Orchestra) record the Messiah is to raise my expectations very high. This recording lives up to its expectations. It is lively, authentic and transparant.

I found this version rather uneven - especially the soloists. The choral singing and orchestral playing are very neat indeed, but lacking a little in joy, for me. There are some unexpected versions of some of the solo items which, whilst interesting, were a little disconcerting.

One of the best versions of the small group Messiah available. If you haven't heard this version (the "Dublin" one) I urge you to buy this album. Out of print for a while, buy this before it vanishes again.
