...or does A New Tide play a little like a perfectly acceptable, though at times pallid, collection of B-sides when held up against the band's weighty back-catalogue - notably the excellent 'Split the Difference' or 2006's `How We Operate'? It just seems a tad rushed. It lacks punch and gusto and all the other mellifluous ingredients I have come to expect from one of the UK's brightest bands.

Sure, A New Tide is earnest and at times bristling with early promise (a little too busy at times) - Mix, Little Pieces, If You Ask Nicely, Sunset Gates, start keenly but drift too easily - though if you're new to Gomez, I suggest you check out earlier releases before diving in at the deep end with this unassuming long-player.

Can't review it as it was a present: recipient seems happy with it though. It was the right item as wishlisted, and it arrived well in time despite posted warnings that it might not.

Well i love gomez, but this offering is a bit like a soundtrack from the O.C. Girly stuff, not what you expect, but worth having in the collection.
