OK let's get the negatives out the way. This IS derivative. It's from the Iron Maiden end of metal and the vocals owe more than a bit to Master Dickinson, the riffs are often somehow familiar and the pace is unrelenting, which in this case is all a good thing as it turns out. The riffs somehow all come together into a melange of hard driving power chords and lively solos. The drums pound satisfyingly and the singing is rather good all told.

This is the second album of Wolf's I've heard and if anything it is heavier than the Black Flame and covers more ground, so that however derivative it is, there is more than enough on here to please the discerning (and not so discerning) metalhead

It's hard to bring anything totally new to heavy rock ( leaving aside the so called nu metal, death metal, extreme metal etc) so why bother trying? Wolf are loud, heavy, and not very subtle, but so what? No growling vocals or machine gun twin bass drums, just crunching riffs and screaming solos, the way metal should be.

Having bought this on a whim while in HMV I feel I should let people know what to expect. Ravenous was the first but definatly not the last Wolf album I purchased. While is not fantasic it definatly is good. There a few stand out songs for me, Whisky Pyscho Hellions beig my favorite. Like the othe review states it does lean towards being a more classic rock rather than trying to do somthing new. But in my eyes this is a good thing, not every band should try to break moulds as long as they don't directly steal from someone else theres nothing wrong with taking insparation. Ravenous isn't a must have but I would definatly recomend it to anyone who's a classic rock fan.
