Annoying chain tensioning system.
on 23 June 2014
I did read many of the reviews, so many were good but the few bad one's were in relation to the chain tensioning and this forms my gripe. I bought Bosch as it was a recognised and trusted brand but they've let themselves down badly with this machine. The chain frequently jumps off which requires a fiddly resetting process whereby you undo a locking nut on the casing. This locking nut, rather a toolless plastic knob which has the chain tensioning ring on the outside and the two don't work independently of one another, furthermore, when cutting, the vibration causes the tensioning ring to undo, the chain goes slack and jumps off.
I persevered with it as I had a half cut leylandii hedge to finish, a job made so much more difficult owing to the chain coming off but this is simply not good enough from Bosch and they need to revisit the drawing board. The situation was helped by stopping after every cut, several times through a larger cut and re-tensioning the chain, a pain but less troublesome than the fiddly job of cover off, chain on, cover on, re-tension, continue. I don't advise you consider this saw which I'm returning as it's not fit for purpose. I hope this helps.
