“It’s kinda late to have a breakdown.” [Amy in Vacancy]
on 6 July 2016
This box set contains the original and ‘prequel’ each in their own DVD case, held within an outer card case. The films fall into the ‘Torture Porn’ genre but lack the intensity of films such as ‘Saw’ or ‘Hostel’ but both have their scary jump moments without going overtly over-the-top.
Vacancy 1 [aka: Motel] On their way home from a party, squabbling couple David (Luke Wilson) and Amy Fox, (Kate Beckinsale) stop at a garage when their car seems to be breaking down and check into the motel across the road. Hearing screams from the back room, the manager, Mason (Frank Whaley), explains that it’s only the Tv. But is that true? The disc offers play, audio [English or Italian 5.1], subtitles [English, English SDH, Italian, Hindi], scene selection, special features [alternate opening, cast & crew, Masons video picks, Raccoon encounter, trailers] and trailers again.
Vacancy 2 is actually a direct to DVD prequel set 3 years before the main film and basically explains how the Motels staff began their tortures, moving on from their original voyeuristic porn business. Languages are 4 main European ones with a few other features
From the off, V1 has some jumpy moments but although V2 has some violence and gore, it lacks suspense by nature of the fact we know the inevitable outcome. Despite the flaws the films are both entertaining and while i'd like to give **** they were entertaining and thus just barely gain a ***** as an 18 if you can pick it up cheap.
