When I was a Northern Soul follower I loved Everlasting Love / Love On A Mountain Top by Robert Knight as classics of the genre - Northern Soul. Robert Knight is a very uplifting singer, and his songs (all his songs) are terrific - very superb examples of great Soul music. If like me you love Soul Music, then this is an album for you. Worth every penny, thoroughly recommended -
buy it, its truly great.

What is it that marks some artists as undoubteded members of the "premier league" while others are doomed to languish forever among the "also rans"? Robert Knight certainly belongs in the latter category in spite of a sweet (if slightly derivative) soul voice.
On the evidence of this album (actually two original LPs with the duplicate material taken out) Robert Knight was not best served by his songwriters. Apart from the two well known hits ("Everlasting Love" and "Love on a mountain top") there is nothing here that approaches the same standard. On other tracks he sounds a bit like Smokey Robinson - not altogether a bad thing, but if I wanted a Smokey Robinson album ....
The two hits are worth the price of admission but the supporting tracks are pleasantly listenable rather than outstanding.

Sweet & fairly light is the best way to describe this CD. It is NOT 2 albums on one though...! Full album of 'Everlasting Love, including title track and original Rainbow Valley - both hits in the UK for Love Affair...plus a few other well known songs..Somewhere my love, Never my love etc.. There are just 3 tracks from the 'Love on a mountain top' album..because apparently many of the tracks were also on the Everlasting Love album - so have been omitted. There are 14 tracks in all - so well worth the money if you like a bit of easy listening soul. He's not the greatest singer - but has a nice easy going relaxed style.
