This excellent collection of songs will appeal to anyone who comes from a coal mining background in the North East. The High Level Ranters are at their best in this collection, from the dark and menacing "Blackleg Miner", through the poignant "Farewell to the Monty" to the amusing " Aa'm Glad the Strike's Done". There is an excellent version of Henry Robson's poem "The Collier's Pay Week" with sympathetic musical accompianment. With guest spots by Dick Gaughan and Harry Boardman, it's a delight to listen to. Apart from being a culturally important collection of songs that are in danger of disappearing, this is a very entertaining CD.
