A superb overview of Bo Diddley's recordings(1955-1972).
on 21 May 2014
This marvellous 2-CD set contains 54 tracks recorded for CHESS RECORDS between 1955 & 1972 by the unique guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Bo Diddley.
All of Bo Diddley's classic sides are here and his trademark 'shave-and-a-haircut-six-bits' rhythm is evident on this compilation with stellar sidemen/women such as Otis Spann, Lafayette Leake(piano); Peggy Jones, Norma-Jean Wofford aka 'The Duchess'(guitar); Jerome Green(maracas); Willie Dixon(bass) & Frank Kirkland, Clifton James(drums).
Bo Diddley, born Otha Elias Bates(1928-2008) was a key link between blues and rock and had a huge influence on many British blues/rock musicians in the 1960s including The Rolling Stones.
'The Story of Bo Diddley' is an excellent collection and a superb overview of the first decade and a half of his work.
