TOP 100 REVIEWERon 17 May 2013
The extraordinary multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk(1936-1977) focuses entirely on flute playing on this marvellous album recorded on September 16 & 17, 1964 with Kirk(flute, alto flute, African wood flute); Bobby Moses(vibes); Horace Parlan(piano); Michael Fleming(bass); Walter Perkins(drums) & Crystal-Joy Albert(vocals).
Highlights of the ten varied tracks include Kirk's 'Serenade to a Cuckoo', 'A Quote From Clifford Brown', the earthy 'The Business Ain't Nothin' But The Blues' & the otherworldly title track.
'I Talk With The Spirits' is an enjoyable and imaginative Kirk album which has been unjustly overlooked.
Also, fans of the rock band Jethro Tull should be interested to hear the album that inspired Ian Anderson's flute playing.
