It opends with one of the hits Chris had in -82, on the album "The Getaway", "Don`t Pay The Ferryman". This is maybe a kind of overture on this cd. Of course, there are some of his ballads also, eight of the 17 tracks, are ballads. But I miss the really good ballads, such as "Hold On", "The Key", from the album "FAR BEYOND THESE CASTLE WALLS" (-75), "The Tower" , and the amazing " Just Another Poor Boy" from "SPANISH TRAIN ..."(-75) "I Will" , and " If You Really Love Her, Let Her Go" from " AT THE END OF A PERFECT DAY" (-79) There are more songs I could have mentioned here, but all in all, The releases of "Best of.." albums in general, don`t think about the "inner circle" of fans, because they are a minority. So these albums will never contain the "pearls" of the artists, only hits... Who hasn`t heard "The Lady In Red" and who has heard "Old-Fashioned People" and "Just in Time"?? Chris once said that he made more music with tempo, than ballads. And of course, the rock songs on this album ,are definitive the best songs, such as " Ship To Shore", " Say Goodbye To It All" and " High On Emotion" What maybe few people know, is that Chris also have songs which questions the way we live, what we accept and about deeper thoughts. On the album " EASTERN WIND" , his song " Wall Of Silence" is an example of that. " The Tower" is about greed, "The Simple Truth" which he made in -88, was used in the campaign for the Kurdish refugees in -91. And who will ever forget these words ".. and I will never know, how men can see the wisdom in a war..." There are other songs, that shows his care about people, love and life, but I`ll leave that till next time. Theres only one new song on this album, " Two Sides To Every Story", It`s a typical Chris song, in the same style as " Strangers On A Train" ( Singel -94) There are three "mixes" of old songs " Missing You 2001" (FLYING COLOURS -88) " Patricia The Stripper 2000" ( SPANISH TRAIN...-75) and DJ Q-BALL remix of " I Want it, ( And I Want it Now!)" ( QUIET REVOLUTION -99) Of the ballads of this album, I can mention " Fatal Hesitation", (which is one of the best!) " The Lady In Red", "When I Think Of You", "Sailing Away", " Tender Hands", the legendary "A Spacaman Came Travelling" and "Where Peaceful Waters Flow". All in all, this is an album that gives you some of Chris`s best songs, for some, and for us fans, it`s a must, because of the new song! When do you release an album along with " CRUSADER", " FAR BEYOND THESE CASTLE WALLS" and "THE GETAWAY" ? But as a fan of Chris De Burgh..SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE...

Much maligned by the music press over the years - but this selection shows that he has consistently crafted good pop tunes for many years.

Good compilation of Chris De Burghs work, particularly focused on the earlier part of his career.

All the classics are here like 'Don't pay the ferryman' and 'A spaceman came travelling'. A few tracks have been re-done but you can hardly tell the difference.

Chris De Burgh seems to have been recording forever (Lady in Red, etc) and these selections represent most of his popular recordings. He is not to everyone's taste but I enjoy his singing and his music so it made a good listen.
