After watching the film, many times, felt compelled to purchase the cd, glad I did - brilliant listening, totally addictive, and with a unique sound of their own, have sinced copied it for the car. Tried to purchase Andrew Strong's debut cd but with no luck, still waiting

the wonderful soundtrack of the Commitments, vol 1+ vol 2 in a wonderful Deluxe edition and a fancy and respectable package. include 5 songs of Andrew strong.

i do not think there is a compliment that was not told on the wonderful cover of the songs (include Midnight Hour,Chain of Fools, At The Dark End Of The Street, Mustang Sally and more ) and about the strong voice of andrew strong.

but this is a wonderful item to keep.

Andrew Strong's powerful vocals combined with the soulful backup vocals are perfected by the great tight arrangements of these American Soul classics. The movie storyline is only fair but it's more than made up for by the incredible music created by this band and singers. The hardest working band in Dublin.

From the first rip roaring song which is a cover of the classic Wilson Pickett number MUSTANG SALLY, this CD is more than you could have possibly expected. The Commitments take you through the journey of soul and in turn bring awareness of the respect to be given to such wonderful music. Andrew Strong's vocal prescence is incredibly powerful, stirring all emotions into each song. The arrangements of each song are clever and however hard you may imagine, they do manage to deliver. This is no easy task, as they cover so many of the modern soul classics that people know and love. Highlights on the album for me are the superb, adrenline filled versions of Mr Pitiful, Midnight hour and Try a Litle tenderness, and in contrast, the beautiful and talented female vocals of do right woman, do right man. THE MUSIC MADE THE FILM, AND THE MUSIC IS SOMETHING TO TREASURE.

Full of timeless tracks - recording in a simple and not too over produced way. The voices sound fresh and the songs still get my feet tapping 20 years later. If you're not sure about soul music, buy this, then go and check out the original versions too - you will have started on a road to some wonderful discoveries.

Just as the film made a lively job of translating Roddy Doyle's homespun tale of Dublin squalor alleviated through dreams, so the music to accompany the film is a collection of spunky soul covers delivered with panache and (in view of the early amateurishness portrayed in the film) fine musicianship.
In fact, this collection is far more than soul - it's great party music to be enjoyed totally on its merits. Andrew Strong roars these songs with a voice coming up from his bootstraps - a male Janis Joplin singing classic soul songs with feeling and raw emotion. And in truth, it's very difficult not to be carried along, tap your feet, sing along and have a great time in the process.
Moral of the tale: Have fun and don't take life too seriously!

First of all this review is not about the music, that is truly excellent. This is probably one of the best soundtracks ever, and almost definitely the best soul music soundtrack.

Also the CD sleeve/package is very nice.

The big problem in this edition is the audio, which is heavily compressed, resulting in excess of noise and listening fatigue. I'm 100% sure of this, since I made an analysis of the sound wave with Audacity. This is a clear example of loudness war (refer to [...] if you wish to know more about what "loudness war" means). Avoid this remastered deluxe edition, better the vinyl version (for sure) or probably the first CD edition of the album (since older CDs are usually less compressed than many newly remastered editions). Remastered is good if well done, but this is definitely not the case.

Music from one of the best films with music ever made. A heartwarming, heartbreaking film, that will make you laugh and cry.

A CD you want to learn all of the words to, and sing along with every time you hear one of them.
