first time i came across this man ,was on a mud and rain pelted m.a.g. rally site in yorkshire last year(2012)...blown away by a magical set in the lesser-regarded 'blues tent'....to all who did not see him....tough ,your big loss!!!although i honestly prefer his other album(what good am i to you),this is stripped out blues at it's best..miss it miss out
Just a wonderful cd of contemporary british blues by a young guitarist with a feel for the history of the blues yet still taking it into new areas. Its a shame that this kind of music and talent is not showcased more often and beats the ***** out of all the so called talent shows on TV
Marcus is a glass act, strong voice, strong guitar and outstanding live by the way. Makes Davy Knowles sound like an X Factor contestant. MB's music and sound has real quality and evokes a time when genuine ability and talent stood out.
I don't think Britain has ever had so many great blues artists as it has now. All producing great live shows and cracking CD's, full of original material and playing to such high standards. When it comes to the yearly best blues album you don't need anymore to look at the USA because the best is here.To this review and here is an artist of incredible talent, certainly an original who plays stunning guitar but possesses an amazing voice.Saw him live this week, and if you get half a chance get and see him because he sures creates a storm, and his every audience shouts out for more, plus incredible reviews. This his first of two amazing albums so far with a third coming before too long is a perfect showcase for what he's like live, ten songs all self written from rockin' blues to more gentle acoustic playing, he also plays a very mean dose of slide. He is so strong on hard hitting rhythm piling in solid but never overplayed solos.Live he does a simply awesome version of Prof.Longhair's 'Mardi Gras' which I've never heard played on guitar before and hope he gets around to recording soon. Here we get 'Hard Times' so popular live, a brilliant song opens the set 'Diamonds In The Rust' which kicks off in great style. You may not know the songs but little things don't matter this album will grow and grow on you, if you love the blues,if you like rhythms and great guitar playing, not your usual Strat stuff because he uses a Gibson electric resonator guitar, which creates much of his original sound. This is an exceptional debut album from a very exceptional talent indeed, he deserves to be up there with the very best, he looks the part and plays like it as well.GREAT STUFF>
I have had the pleasure of knowing Marcus Bonfanti for a few years now, and have to say whether it be recorded or live, solo or with his band, this guy is awesome! Great lyrics, delivered by a voice that you would never imagine could come out of this guy when you look at him and chat to him. A true talent, that needs to be heard and shared. If you like blues you'll love Marcus Bonfanti. Highly recommend anything this guy has anything to do with, buy his music, go see him live, you will not be disappointed!
A complete one off performer, Marcus is a confident and consumate performer. This album will not be off your cd player if you like your music on the raw side of blues. He plays all the instruments on this album and boy can he play. Just fantastic - Buy it and treasure it!! If you get a chance to see him live, DO NOT pass up the opportunity.
Been looking forward to this release for a long time - can't wait to get my hands on it. Up to now I've had to make do with his EP 'Hard Times' I've seen Marcus Bonfanti play live a few times now, including the recent Robert Cray tour, and he's a sensational player. Could this be the start of a new generation of British Blues stars? A must have album.
Just Brilliant!! I defy anyone who can listen without moving their feet or tapping a beat!!! A beautiful album, a beautiful guy, a great story and a crackin buy!!! In the same vein as Sea Sick Steve - blues to the core. . . Rock on Marcus!!!
