In my opinion this is one of the best rock albums of the early 70's. It's a mixture of outstanding covers (Free's The Stealer and Allman Brothers Midnight Rider) and superb Seger originals (Rosalie, Turn the page, Back in `72). There's not a duff track on the original album. The only down side is the 4 disappointing bonus tracks at the end.

I bought this when it first appeared on vinyl back in '73 and loved it. Since moving over to CD in the `80's I've been looking for a CD version. According to Wikipedia, it is rumoured that Seger is unlikely to release this on CD as he's unhappy with the vocals. This version appears to come from Argentina, so I suspect that it's an unofficial release. Grab it while you can.

Recorded in 1973, this is the first of three classic albums from the era before fame kicked in. The other two albums (Smokin' O.P.'s and Beautiful Loser)are very good, but this is great. Here he covered Midnight Rider(Allman Brothers): a joyful, lively and upbeat opening to the album. You get a rocking version of Stealer (Free) before "Rosalie" kicks in: the track famously covered by Thin Lizzy (they had taste). Also from this album, is a classic Seger track "I've Been Workin'" later covered by Van Morrison. Of the others, Turn The Page is the most well known. A personal track describing life on the road for a long-haired city musician, heartfelt and ultimately upbeat. Probably my favourite Seger album: no bad tracks, one great CD.

This has got to be the best Bob Seger album ever, with "seven" a close second. Why cant the record company get this out on cd while there are still enough of us around from those days to enjoy it. At least I still have a good vinyl copy in the meantime.

some very good Seger adaptations although a couple of the bonus tracks seem to just fillers. The ex Free song works well
