I recall buying the vinyl version in the early 1980s and re-discovered this album in 2012. It is my favourite Oils album because it is more interesting and original than early efforts yet is not as over-produced as some of their later albums. Many of its themes are as relevant today: the relentless corporatisation of the nation; the overbearing right wing media - "out-talked by the mass media, to pay the bills it lies"; the powerful mining industry "where will we be when they leave us a quarry"; the poor deal the nation's indigenous people get; etc. Also, few Aussie bands have ever really articulated the psyche of white Australia like Midnight Oil, i.e. the banality of suburbia, the stifling political apathy, punters forlornly pinning all hopes on gambling, etc. The album title 'Place without a postcard' refers to the great Aussie dream of the isolated, undiscovered, undeveloped, perfect stretch of coastline - somewhere close to the heart but harder and harder to find today.

Stand out tracks are:
1. "Don't Wanna Be the One"
2. "Brave Faces"
4. "Someone Else to Blame"
5. "Basement Flat"
10. "If Ned Kelly Was King"
11. "Lucky Country"

There are a few weaker tracks to skip but it's a great album to play loud!

This oldie is grrrreat and a must for all oils fans. I bought it to fill a gap in my collection and it does all that. Title track is haunting.
