KI hsve previously read the other Lois books (which don't seem to be available on kindle).
In this adventure Lois' tenants have departed in a hurry, because of a neighbour's crowing cockerel.
The neighbour is then murdered and Lois' son is the prime subject. Naturally Lois begins to poke her nose in and involve her cleaning staff snd family in her investigations. Lois is helped by her friendship(?) with senior policeman Hunter Cowgill.
To be honest I don't really understand what Hunter sees in Lois because she is a stroppy madam, who can be very irrational.
The mystery turns out to involve a blind woman, her son, a museum, a birth and pork chops!
Just one query, do criminal gangs really employ a firm of cleaners when they are supposed to be hiding out?

Poor Loise Meade! I first met her in Murder on Monday, Terror on Tuesday.....
This latest offering is seriously depressing. Poor Lois seems unable to speak to anyone without a snarl or a cutting reply. She must be very good-looking to get away with such constant rudeness.....The story itself is quite uninteresting, although I did read to the end.
Her relationship with Cowgill of the police is rather like that of the commander in chief of an army dealing with a private. This tendency is even worse in Tragedy at Two (I got this from the library...). She seems to think that the police should report to her before doing their job.
The by-play with family and friends (such as they are) has quite disappeared.
Obviously this is now written by a computer!

I enjoy the Lois Meade stories very much, she is such a real character and the plots are quite good.
