Its nice to see Jim Noir get some plaudits for this album, and it seems as though he is becoming a bit of a mainstream hit, whilst still maintaining a hefty slice of cred. This is so good to see, as he doesn't take himself at all seriously. Whimsy like this seems to be pretty thin on the ground these days, and although its easy to call him the next Badly Drawn Boy or some other such unpleasant tag, he's just a young lad writing neat little songs which don't sound like much else in the marketplace. I'm not usually one to buy "indie" albums like this, being tragically marooned in 60s land. I think Kevin Ayers might be a good reference point alongside the obvious Brian Wilson comparisons. Misty's Big Adventure are another band doing a similar sort of thing, and I like them too. What a lot of comparisons! All entirely futile of course!
