It's easy to dismiss this track as standard 80's electro-pop, but it's so much more. Somerville's distinctive vocals are both strong, and compassionate, and really convey why this song means so much. Boy George once said he had been planning to cause a stir with a powerful track, but Somerville beat him to it, but admitted his wouldn't have been anywhere near as edgy. Listen to the lyrics carefully, and try to imagine a young lad trying to become the man he needs to be, in what was a very different time. If you don't get what I mean, watch the video.
