Levellers seminal LP from 94! Not a bad follow up to Levelling The Land!

This is the album the Levellers claim was a rushed mess. Mark reckons he can't listen to it any more. For the life of me, I can't think why.
It's not over-produced, I'll grant them. Rumour has it they recorded it from start to finish in just 6 weeks. This Garden has no tune because they didn't have time to write one.
Thing is, though, the quality of the songs makes all that irrelevant. I can't think of a single song on the entire album that I dislike. I've heard a few different versions of Julie - acoustic, live with bagpiper, recorded - and I love every one of them. This Garden really shouldn't work at all, but breaks so many rules, it sounds brilliant. The Likes of You and I with its beautiful Jeremy-penned lyrics. All are wonderful.

Many bands would kill to produce songs of this calibre. It's time the Levellers took pride in this one and owned it as the classic it really is.

The follow up to their first hit album 'Levelling the Land', this is definitive Levellers from 1993. While it is not quite as consistent as their first two albums, there are some classic songs here such as 'Julie', '100 Years of Solitude' and 'This Garden'. Sometimes the mixing seems to have been rushed however the quality of the songwriting shines through.

Timeless Folk Rock that really gets you thinking, one of my best bands of all time. Still relevant today, can't beat it.
