A brilliant DVD set.
Just Like Heaven.
The storyline... A sad wounded loner (Mark Ruffalo) moves into an apartment and is haunted by the "spirit" of the previous tenant (Reese Witherspoon) who doesn't know who she is and together they try to find out her identity.
My review.... A brilliant rom com that at times makes you laugh out loud and the next moment feel really emotional. The two leads excel in this film, and while I admit to being a big Reese Witherspoon fan she really shines here and Mark Ruffalo's comic side comes out in spades.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
The storyline... An advertising executive (Mathew McConaughey) has to get a girl to fall in love with him in 10 days to land a big contract and at the same time as the "girl" in his sights (Kate Hudson) has the same time frame to get a guy to fall for her and then drive him away to get a promotion.
My review.... Simply put, this film is great. It has all the elements of a good rom com with some of Kate Hudsons scenes roll on the floor hilarious.
The storyline... A sports shoe designer (Orlando Bloom) gets the sack after losing his company millions of dollars at the same time as hearing of the death of his father. While travelling to his hometown (the Elizabethtown of the title) he meets a rather odd flight attendant (Kirsten Dunst) with whom he develops a relationship over the course of the film.
My review.... While the original premise of the film is ludicrous, it really works in so many ways. Both Bloom and Dunst put in solid performances with some great family scenes and while I cant say this is a traditional take on the rom com genre it is well worth its inclusion in this set.
