Avatara's review of John Carpenter's "Escape from New York" DVD.
on 11 May 2015
John Carpenter is a director, script writer and music scorer of the highest calibre and is responsible for some of the greatest films ever to grace the silver screen and the small screen. "Escape From New York" is set in the near future and was a genre defining film that spawned many knock offs as a direct result. Kurt Russell (Snake Plissken) teams up with John Carpenter once again to tell this intriguing tale of fighting fire with fire by sending a ruthless killer into a penal colony (Manhattan Island) to rescue the President of the United States to gain a total pardon for his past criminal activities. The film documents the journey of Snake Plissken's rescue attempt through all the trials and tribulations that "The Duke of New York" foists upon him and all the people that he meets along his way. The film is a little dated but still thoroughly enjoyable and is rated 15 due to some profanity, violence and gore. If you like apocalyptic dystopian fantasy / Sci-Fi films then "Escape from New York" is perfect for you. Who could complain about its tiny price tag of £0.44 plus postage? If like me you collect DVDs then this is a bargain that you shouldn't miss out on!
