AeroPress makes filter coffee easy
on 29 August 2017
I've never really gone for filter type coffee. It always seemed like too much fuss. The AeroPress has changed my mind :)
I might be seen as a heathen, but I'm happy with results gained just by using a supermarket pre ground filter coffee. Use the standard method. Paper filter to the plastic sieve, fit to the underside of the main holder (make sure it is fitted properly else you will have a bit of a mess if it springs apart) add a measure of coffees, and place holder over mug. Boil water in kettle and wait about a minute for the water to cool slightly, Fill to about level 2, stir for 10 seconds, then place the plunger and depress gradually. The plunger is a tight fit and does take firm pressure, which wouldn't be good on a weak bench or fragile mug or be that easy for someone with poor strength in their hands). Remove assembly from cup, release the plastic mesh and eject the waste coffee granules and paper filter into bin (leaving none of the granules in your cup). Note they recommend you don't leave the plunger part in the tube as the compression will wear the rubber. Top up mug with hot water to taste and relax. Simples.
I tried the so called inverted method, and found that potentially more messy, certainly took longer to get the coffee made, and due to the brew time, it became quite bitter, compared to the standard method above.
I did find it was easier to find a couple of you tube videos on the brewing process as the instructions provided were very basic.
