Pretty Good for the Price
on 13 August 2010
While the Spitfire is one of the most famous aircraft in history, certain Marks have been under-represented in the plastic model market. Most 1/72 kits are of the Mark I or V.
This is a new release, not to be confused with the truly ancient and awful Airfix Mark IX which is usually sold as 'Johnnie Johnson's' JE-J. This is a new mould, looks accurate and is reasonably priced. However, there's not much in the way of interior, which is strange given the excellent cockpit in the new Airfix Mark XIX. Two nice decal options and colour schemes are provided, although some of the decals are out of register. Many after market decals are around anyway.
I enjoyed building this and it's better value than the Hasegawa kits, which are getting pretty scarce anyway.
Well done Airfix
