This is a truly first class recording of Geminiani's op 3,his finest set of concertos. It's a delight from start to finish and even more incredible when you read in the cd booklet notes that the recording was made in October 1976 (i would have been 7 years old then!!).The Academy of Ancient Music, directed from the harpsichord by it's founder Christopher Hogwood, had only been together for 3 years at the time but as this cd demonstrates, they very quickly established the style of playing that was to become the standard for the authentic movement. As a bonus the analogue sound recording is outstanding and the music is of real quality, certainly Geminiani's very best.

Christopher Hogwood has made many wonderful recordings over the years, with the vast majority of them still holding up very well today and this one must count among his very best.

If, as it says in another, this was one of the first of the AAM recordings "of the modern era" then Mr Hogwood et al certainly started it off with a real gem. Probably not as well known as some of the Vivaldi stuff that AAM did later on but if you like baroque music, this should be on your shelf or in your ipod.

First heard this music at a concert in Ireland this summer. Had never heard of this composer before although we have records of Italian Baroque music. Would highly recommend this record and this composer

Some very nice music by a composer I had previously overlooked. Also of note is the recording of Geminiani's reworking of concertos by Correli performed by the Academy of Ancient Music.
