This excellent compilation takes its title from the name of the first record collectors shop in the UK to stock almost every type of retro music. And its easy to imagine hearing these marvellous tracks being played in the background as vinyl junkies like myself searched hopefully through vast quantities of old vinyl albums and 7" singles in search of musical treasure.

The real magic of CDs like this is that you get so many different kinds of music bundled together - unlike most compilation CDs which usually stick fairly closely to a single genre. Here you will find yourself being constantly - and wonderfully - surprised, especially if you listen on shuffle play. You will understand why, when I tell you that that right across the generous 28 tracks, you will find country, cajun, rockabilly, rock'n'roll, soul, punk, garage rock, acid rock, pub rock and blues, from artists as diverse as Amos Milburn, Vince Taylor, the Belfast Gypsies, Ron Holden, Link Wray and the Shangri-Las to mention just a few. Of course all the usual Ace characteristics are present and correct - great packaging, top class sound and audio restoration, detailed liner notes and a 28 page booklet stuffed with all kinds of background information.

For me, this CD evokes memories of wonderful days and nights talking music with good friends, listening to each others new musical discoveries, arguing about who played on what, or who influenced who, and how we could track down some obscure 7" single from someone whose name we were'nt even sure of.

I really hope Ace turn this concept into a series and that we can look forward to several more voulmes in the years to come.

Rock On indeed!

I can only echo what Mr. Hennessy says. A marvelous shop, a great record tha brings back wonderful memories, and great sleeve notes for Roger and Ted that bring back even more memories. And I was lucky enough to use the toilet downstairs and pass those stacks of records.
Rock Off in Soho was another shop of memories and fun/

Even if you were never in this shop, get the CD, its just full of great sounds.
