I bought this sat nav as I needed one with full European maps. When I received it I tried to do the free map update and that is when the trouble started. There is simply not enough memory to update all the maps fully. I sent my first one back after everything going wrong. The second one was exactly the same so I contacted Garmin support and within a few days I managed to get it sorted. However it did mean I had to purchase a seperate memory card to enable a full update. The process of updating is not intuitive and is very frustrating. In the end the Garmin support guy actually had to take over my computer remotely to fulfill the task.
Some more shortcomings are that fact it doesn't display the current time on the screen so it is hard to see how long it will take to get anywhere (it only gives arrival time). It also only bases it's arrival time if you do top legal speed, this is rather amusing in Germany where the autobahns are often unrestricted. Would be fine in a Lotus or an Aston but not so good in a large van!!
It can also be a bit slow on giving turnings and if there are 2 junctions close to one another it is easy to get the wrong one, especially in a busy city. It also comes up with a strange 'Google Earth' type view at times, often when it is a bit lost.
We have had a love hate relationship with this sat-nav. It gets us to places (mostly) but it really does appear to have a mind of it's own and can bring out the worse type of language in the driver.....but on the plus side it is a very good price for such a comprehensive map system.
