I've been an admirer of Ravel and Debussy all my life but that's not why I chose this recording. I did it because of the way Sergiu Celibidache - the old, mature version of him :-) - conducts the music, especially the Bolero. I enjoy every second of it and I am at awe about the way he does it at the time of the recording. If you go to Youtube you can view him conducting the Bolero some 30 years earlier: he's like fire, he's all movement, all passion. Now he's all love, all wisdom. He's conducting by his very presence - making suggestions to the orchestra rather than instructions. The result is magnificent - as are the standing ovations following the Bolero. It's such a joy!

This by the way is a wonderful musical expression of how expansion and busting loose feels like - busting loose as in Busting Loose From the Money Game: Mind-Blowing Strategies for Changing the Rules of a Game You Can't Win.

when French composers dealt with Spanish styles and idioms they were great indeed, they captured the essence of the Spanish music character .
for the first time ever comes a great conductor CELIBIDACHE with ultimate understanding to what the French composers really wanted to say in Spanish terms
with CELIBIDACHE you will listen to music in a different way,the way IT SHOULD BE...this recording is among his last recordings..still strong as ever..alert and divine, energetic in a none stop concert
this DVD is a must for French music lovers under the unbeatable baton of CELI!!!!!!

If you like Ravel and Debussy music then you will love this. Celibidache is clearly getting on a bit but it is a lovely concert.
