I recently got a hold of this lost classic on cd and I would urge any heavy rockers out there to do the same if they haven't already as its a belter. The first three songs are good solid rockers but its really from the title track onwards that this album blew me away with song after song of snarling menace played at breakneck speed. Angry's lyrics are superb, fiercely sung with his trademark gutteral howl, the musicianship of the band is top notch with some great slide guitar by Pete Wells. The track Magnum Maid, a ferociouly fast paced love song about a 44 magnum, is reason enough to buy this album alone ' She's a well built lady, steel cold, spits hell on fire with a tombstone load!'. There are other absolute belters e.g. Assault&Battery, Sidewalk Sally, Rock nRoll is king, Chinese Dunkirk, Suicide City and a great bonus track, I had you first, which has Angry ranting venomously about some ex bird o his ' I had you first, I showed you how!' Rose Tattoo are always being compared to ACDC as is Angry to Bon Scott, but the only thing in common they have is that they are australian, Rose Tattoo have a much more menacing lowdown and dirtier quality. Lyrically I feel the songs have more depth to them. ACDC released 'for those about to rock' to huge success the same year as Asaault & Battery, but for my money this album is far superior to that in everyway. Mean, menacing and downright criminal!
