This was Paul Rodgers' first piece of work following his split with Bad Company in 1983. The latter Bad Co albums had become turgid, directionless affairs as the band had lost much of their original inspiration.
Unsurprising, therefore, that this offering, although giving us the most excellent title track (why doesn't he play this live?) makes you feel that he is feeling his way slowly back to the source of his passion.
Of course, if you're a Paul Rodgers fan there are many good reasons to get a copy :
his first work since leaving Bad Co
plays all the instruments himself
his singing re-affirms his position as one of the the best blues singers ever.

So, on balance, 3 stars for content but still worth a listen.

THis album was great when I was a kid, and now I have it on CD, I get to listem to it all over again. It showed Rodgers can go it alone, and do it well. Even when the Firm did Live in Peace, it wasn't as good as on Cut Loose.
