Among the seemingly thousands of traditional Irish bands, The Chieftains stand head and shoulders above all others, and this release is them at their very best. They'll seldom disappoint anyway, but if you want to satisfy your curiosity abut them, do it with this album. (Its immediate successor is another corker.) 'Mrs. Judge', 'Oscar and Malvina', 'Carolan's Welcome' and the terrific title track are the stand outs, but everything else is worth hearing too.

This album has great traditional tunes and the Chieftains know how to make the best of them. Their playing is so assured here, they don't need to do anything flashy to create a fabulous sound, which is rarely equalled by others in irish music. Matt Molloy's flute playing is a hghlight.
