Four seasons in now and HLOTS's ultra-realistic stories of human weakness and tragedy are sharp enough to leave you with scar tissue on your soul. Pembleton; Bayliss; Munch; Giardello and all of the show's detectives almost seem to become real before your eyes with their messiness and complexity. You share their highs and darkest of lows throughout, wondering what will happen to them next. Out-standingly excellent detective drama <3.

Season 4 of this great series opens with Frank Pembleton returning to work after his stroke. Andre Braugher puts in a fantastic turn as the detective struggling with his disabilities as he tries to resume his life. Kellerman has to struggle with accusations of bribery that threaten his career. Lewis keeps after the drug baron Mahoney with devestating results that will spill over into series 5. A new female ME and Munch as a teenager. This season has it all including a tragic return for Det. Beau Felton. Almost as good as the wire, is there higher praise?

If you liked The Wire and OZ then you'll definitely enjoy Homicide Life in the Street. This season sees more input by David Simon (Creator - The Wire). Tom Fontana who saw the potential of this show from the book written by Simon has done an awsome job and has made it gritty and hard hitting but without the 'language' of The Wire. Season 4 is fantastic and you will find it difficult to just watch one episode at a time. Get it now!!

Having watched all of "The Wire", we turned our attention to the "Homicide" series as this is what preceded it. If you like any of the "Law & Order" series, you will like "Homicide" (particularly from season 3 onwards). You can see the seeds for "The Wire" in some of the episodes. "Homicide" was in full stride by Season 4. Good cop programme.

For those of you interested: season four - though I read otherwise - has English subtitles (hoh), too.
On the back cover it says "subtitles - none - hoh"
The transfer is not very good, sometimes there are defective pixels (?) with gray backgrounds etc.
But as I found season 3 getting somewhat dull, I'm really glad I carried on, as the writers did a fabulous job with season 4.

I've watched all 6 seasons of Homicide and the whole series is highly recommended. As always, there are a couple of episodes that are duds but anything that runs this long is bound to have a few of those. The acting is great and the characters are interesting and fun. It's not as gritty as The Shield and The Wire but Homicide was on mainstream TV, not cable, so that's expected.

If you like a mixture of cultures, with crime that connects a team together this is for you also.

It is one of USA's most under rate viewing.

Just started watching 4th series after finishing first three. It appears to be every bitas good as them. The three parter with James Earl Jones as a guest star was excellent.Hope the rest of the series turns out the same.Looking forward to watching 5 and 6 in the coming weeks.

The dialogue and storylines are first class. Always unpredictable, always taking you by surprise. Like life, nothing is ever straightforward. Be warned - Homocide is addictive. Once you start watching this series, you'll be hooked and you won't rest until you've seen the last episode. Then you'll want to order the next series immediately.
