The setting is San Francisco; Joey Evans is a second-rate singer, a heel known for his womanizing ways, but charming and funny. When Joey meets Linda English, a naive chorus girl, he has stirrings of real feelings. However, that does not stop him from romancing a wealthy, wilful, and lonely widow--Vera Simpson-- in order to convince her to finance his dream, "Chez Joey", a night club of his own. All original recordings digitally remastered. This 27-track CD provides 15 tracks from the original sound track of the motion picture Pal Joey as they were released and intended to be heard plus 12 bonus tracks performed by Frank Sinatra, taken from his movies. Overall great sound quality and another excellent entry to the ASWAS soundtrack series.
The very best of Rodgers & Hart but the sound quality is extremely poor and hinders your enjoyment of the cd. Regarding the soundtrack itself Sinatra's more swinging version of 'I could write a book' as heard in the film has been replaced by an inferior ballad.
Enjoyable reminder of the film but I did not remember how poor the backing band was. Perhaps this was deliberate to reflect the seedy nightclub, but I suspect it is just a badly recorded original or more likely a poor transfer to CD.
