Very poor editing ruined what could have been a good film. I guess Andrew V film was subjected to tv schedule hacking of his film!

I love this made for tv movie. Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck play well off each other. If you liked The Sacketts (which has nearly all the same cast as in Shadow Riders), then you will enjoy this film.

The civil war is over and Traven brothers are going home. But Mac (Tom Selleck) and Dal (Sam Elliott) find on their arrival is a town ravaged by Confederate rebels who refuse to surrender. Dal is captured and they try to hang him, But Mac saves him. When they reach home they find their parents emotional because the Traven younger sisters are kidnapped by Guerillas for sale in Mexico. Kate (Katherine Ross), Dal's sweetheart is also with them.
Major Cooper Ashbury(Geoffrey Lewis) had kidnapped them and the men are to sold to the silver mines in Mexico. Determined to rescue their loved ones, Mac and Dal need someone who knows Mexico. Uncle Black Jack (Ben Johnson) is in jail, so they break him out using dynamite. They head south to finish the war they thought already ended.
Some for the prisoners are taken by boat to Mexico. Sheriff Miles Gillette takes a possie to follow them across the border over river Rio Grande. The gang plan to take prisioners on a train. The movie is not in widescreen. Andrew V Mclaglen directs well and keeps the story moving. What will happen to the girls? Will Mac and Dal manage to save them? What will the sheriff do about uncle Jack?
Watch and ENJOY. (ENGLAND. UK)

A kind of sequel to The Sacketts - same cast - different story. It's great to spot the old time cowboys, but this is pretty average. Mind you, with the choice of new westerns severely limited, still worth a look.

A better than average, though never demanding, western that sometimes betrays its TV origins in budget and feel. Selleck and Elliot hold the thing together. File under wet afternoon, feet up, entertaining cowboy.

I like most films with Tom Selleck or Sam Elliot in and this was a good story with humour. Wish more of their films were Region 2.

The film was good and the way it was received via the postal system was very good. Will purchase from this source again.
