The egg-slicer is made of (dishwasher safe) polished stainless steel. It's 10cm in diameter and 2.5cm high when closed. The bottom and the top part are held together by a hinge. The lower part is slightly elevated, it has seven 3mm wide slats divided by 2mm wide slits. It serves as a tray onto which you put the boiled egg. Then you lower the top containing eight stainless steel wires. They cut through the egg by moving into the slits. Up with the top and you can take out perfect slices.

You can also use this slicer for mushrooms and lumps of mozzarella cheese if they aren't too big. If they are, you can cut them into half first. Unfortunately you can't slice tomatoes, too. The skin is a bit too hard for the wires.

Considering that it`s indestructible and you can have it forever if you treat it in a civilised way and don`t maltreat it with, say, a hammer or step on it, it`s a cheap acquisition. It's an ideal present - maybe together with an egg-pick - for people setting up their first household. But also long-time housewives and househusbands will be pleased and ask themselves after a while how they could ever live without these little helpers.

If you`re musically minded and are capable of producing music with anything, you`ll love the egg-slicer. It hasn`t got the nickname `egg-harp` for nothing. Move your fingertips along the wires and you`ll hear music of the spheres.

Well made, robust, efficient, delivering very tidy slices of hard boiled eggs, maybe mushrooms too or mozzarella. A professional piece of kitchen kit, living close at hand in the drawer, I feel we will be happy companions for a long time...

When cooking eggs for salads they should not be too fresh. Mostly because their shells will cling on and lumps of egg white will come away, leaving a pock marked egg. After boiling them for seven to ten minutes, according to size, quickly cool them down again by sitting them in a bowl of ice or under the cold tap. This stops the dreaded sulphurous green/black tinged ring so reminiscent of school dinnertime. I read that if you need to use very fresh eggs straight from the clucking hen then steam them instead for 20 minutes. This make them easier to peel.

After using this for a while I found that it does not work so well for large eggs. The receptacle for the egg is not generous enough and they tend to squash flat.

But yes, it plays a tune!

When I received this product it was brand new and well packaged as is everything I have ever purchased on Amazon......one small problem.....the steel cutting wire had snapped......Amazon were quick to offer me a replacement but I had lost faith in the product so I opted for a refund......Maybe I was just unlucky!!!!....

I purchased two of these Master Class Egg Slicer. The first one I used once and it was great. I used it a second time and the wires all broke.
I bought another one and exactly the same thing, first time great, second time broken.
This egg slicer is rubbish.

Pleasing to use, as many reviewers have said. Initially feels like it will survive a couple of years of use, but already two of my wires have snapped and I've only had it a month. If they strengthened the wires a little, this could be a really good quality product.

At last equipment sturdy enough to make a good job of slicing while keeping mess to a minimum and food attractive.
