Pleasant but nothing more
on 13 January 2010
Nothing wrong with this film which is harmless enough. It is not quite as amusing as I had hoped (although I thought the moments with the exasperatingly useless new employee were the funniest), this is a gentle and sometimes bittersweet comedy. I like the juxtaposition of the put upon and craggy lead character beguiling the lovely Anne Consigny and the grouchy old father added another dimension to this film.
Like so many French films, this is not alot you can fault here and it is enjoyable in that no one is going to complain about it's gentle and easy-going manner. However, it does have the feel of a superior TV production. Agreeable enough, it is probably of more interest if you enjoy dancing - something I find more frightening that any horror film! An "ok" sort of film but not the droll masterpiece I had been led to believe it would be.
