The song opens with a pounding dare I say riff well it's one note being hammered away at creating this suspense, and Interpol do it very well here with their chiming guitars pounding bass and drums and sweeping keyboards. This gloomy pounding is broken with guitars at first sounding like the end of the world according to Interpol but mystically and magically changes to a catchy, happy melody sure to have the live crowds going ''duh duh duuuh, duh duh duh duh duuh duuuuh'' as the tension is finally released. Overall a pleasantly catchy toe tapping paced tune. The B-side Pioneer to the Falls too is the great opener from their third album, trudging and typically gloomy, but enlightening nonetheless. Top Notch
I really recommend this cd to all the Interpol fans. The song "Mammoth" is great but in my opinion what makes this single a must is the orchestral version of "Pioneers to the Falls". This orchestral version is excellent, brilliant, fabulous, and it really took me by surprise since I never expected that Interpol would make a version of a wonderful and captivating song by means of orchestral arrangements. The result is marvellous. If you love classical music and Interpol, this is your song.
