This is one of Albert Ayler's finest albums which was beautifully recorded in a Hilversum radio studio at the end of the group's 1964 European tour. Ayler had assembled a potent and empathetic quartet for this tour featuring Don Cherry(cornet), Gary Peacock(bass) & Sunny Murray(drums). Ayler's tenor sax sounds immensely powerful here with Don Cherry's cornet the perfect foil and inspired playing from Peacock & Murray. The passionate and stirring music created on this date deserves to be much better known and it's a great pity that this extraordinary quartet never recorded again.
This CD provides listeners with a lively and excellent perfomance from 1964, when American sax player Albert Ayler was touring Europe. Besides his usual (great) rhythm section of Gary Peacock and Sonny Murray. This live-in-a-radio-studio performance in Hilversum, the Netherlands also features trumpeter Don Cherry, there are precious few performances of Ayler with Cherry. (the performance was first issued circa 1980 on an LP on Dutch label Osmosis).
