A very difficult cd to find. As in all cases if you are a TD fan any music you have heard on film becomes a holy grail and must be found. Although this is not quite the soundtrack there is a lot of good stuff here.
The Keep has been one of Tangerine Dreams soundtracks that I have been after since the film first came out and now I have got it! Well not actually THE original soundtrack. How to reveiw this? well on opening it states The Keep - 20th. Anniversary Edition, so far so good however in the sleeve notes the words music from and inspired by the motion picture.... mmm so far so good (well it is Tangerine Dream) but the real kick is the part that says "This recording is for the most part a re-recording by Edgar Froese". OK I thought the original did have some sound issues but what I was not expecting was how different this was to the original. The "inspired by" peices I could live with because it is the originators of the soundtrack but the er-recorded peices! In effect it is very hard to discern those that were from the movie, some very identifiable themes have had so many overlays and twiddly bits added it takes it to another level - a very poor one. In fact (in my opinion) the only really good version of the soundtrack is the last track - from Logos!
This album promises many things and sadly fails to deliver. Once again it appears the Tangerine Dream / Edgar Froese money making machine is marching on unabaited. What should have been a classic soundtrack addition (there have been many better soundtracks by TD) turned out to be a "remix" and inspirations album. That is why I have given it 3 stars, and am still waiting for an original - at the right price.
