Griff Rhys-Jones in the mountains
on 1 August 2017
I enjoy travelogues and the chance to 'visit' places, and Griff Rhys-Jones has always been my favourite. He has a natural warmth and sincerity, and his down to earthness and good humour make him an extremely likeable guide on this series exploring Britain's mountains. On his travels, Griff learns about local history and legends and meets the people whose lives are shaped by the mountains. Particular episodes which made an impression on me were the man who converted the disused slate mine into a going concern, spending endless days alone in the mine searching for viable slate, and 'stone monkey', the man who climbs sheer rock faces. In each episode Griff himself undertakes a climb, some of which look quite scary. I've always liked him but this series increased my respect for him so much, you have to admire his pluck! A fascinating series and a wonderful presenter.
