If you have the other early 60's Getz Bossa Nova albums then this disc is a strong contender as an addition to your collection. It would be no surprise to learn that this is a very smooth after- dinner / summers day kind of a jazz album. That's not to say that the band aren't great -because they are, (features Gary Burton on vibes, for example) and the performances especially on the lovely 'Here's That Rainy Day' and 'Summertime' are generally first rate, it's simply that this is a deliberately cool, low key but swinging affair that is purposely focused on mood rather then musical grandstanding. If that sounds appealing, then 'Getz Au Go Go' is for you.
The recorded sound is excellent. Be aware that Astrid only appears on four tracks, but she's in great voice. Also, the album is not over long at around 40 minutes. Still the music you do get is worth every penny. Enjoy!
