This diminutive track is packed with lots of moving parts which sprint into action when Thomas and his cargo truck move near them. The beauty of this play set is that although it takes a couple of batteries, no batteries are strictly necessary! The batteries power a light and the Thomas theme tune (the new one, not the `classic' one), but the main features are all operated by hidden magnets.
My two year old daughter has become obsessed with Thomas and I'm really pleased that as well as dolls and `girly' stuff I can also play trains with her. She is captivated by all the various actions which happen almost magically as you push Thomas around the track. The bridge opens as Thomas nears it, the signal and the barriers move, and most impressively - logs drop from a platform into the cargo truck when it goes underneath it.
My daughter can be a bit rough with toys, but this is lasting well. All she has to do is manoeuvre Thomas around the figure-8 track (over and under the bridge) and pop the logs back in the cargo holder. Thomas toys can be a bit expensive, and sometimes don't offer much in the way of play value - but this is definitely not only one of the best Thomas toys I've seen, but it's also one of the best toys she's ever had. It's easy to put together and is nice and chunky, it will stand the test of time, but best of all - it's fun!
