I used to love Chips as a kids - and I suspect you're here because you did too... so what's it like watching it 20 or so years on? Well, it's even better 2nd time around!

Chips takes you back to a day when TV was innocent. Each episode is a joy to watch and transports you to another time and place.

A place where the bad guys always get caught and the crimes and calamities are pretty mild. A place where the California sun always shines and you get to see long shots of cops bowling down rolling freeways on their motorbikes.

The duo work well together on screen - there's the diligent Baker and the clumsy and trouble-prone Puncharello - there's the Chief who's always on their case and all in all this is just a great, feel good TV series you can put on during the day and enjoy.

All the sun, moral messages, and feel good TV can't help but bring a smile to your face. Plus, to round things off, there's a funky-as-you-like-it-boom-chicka-wah-wah-jive-talking-street-walking-pimp-slapping-toe-tapping-booty-shaking-bad-muddy-funksta 70's soundtrack to each episode... seriously, I think they got Shaft to do the music... 'Shut yo mouth!' - Mm-Hmm - that's right!

If you have kids they're bound to love it, and if not - who cares - because you will!

Jon and Ponch are the do gooding buddy motorbike cops only rivalled by Starsky and Hutch of the 1970's. Officer Ponch 'Erik Estrada' manages to get himself in all sorts of trouble but his heart in in the right place. And poor Jon ' Larry Wilcox' has to keep him on the straight and narrow and often get's tangelled up himself. This is a feel good series that's a little dated now but is still good viewing and I'm so glad it's made it to Dvd at long last. There are 22 fun filled episodes here where the duo have to deal with auto thieves to lost dogs and speeders. There were five series made which I rememeber from my childhood of a time when Tv used to be fun and far less serious.

A lot of TV shows of my childhood have aged terribly and can only be watched for nostalgia. However, this one still shines in terms of acting, speed and content. My eldest old son absolutely loves it and we have repeatedly watched it between ages about 10-12 - cops on bikes, crims and 70s funky music, what more could you want?

Still great "family values" TV where the good guys are good, the bad guys are bad and good always wins out in the end. Also the classic pairing of the straight cop Jon and and an immature Poncherello who learns lessons the hard way.

For those who want a further breakdown the rating is PG for all but one episode which is a 12 where a female hitch-hiker is sexually threatened. Also one episode features a nudist volleyball team but nothing is shown though much is inferred.

I have some great memories of this series. My brother and his friend dressing up in their chips outfits, pretending to be Jon and Ponch.

Speaking of Mr. Poncherello and Mr. Baker this the first season, is finding them having their ups and downs but sticking together like the best friends they are.

This season finds them battling green fingered theives who'll steal anything even little bits of highway. also, Ponch must keep a girl calm after she becomes trapped in the wreck of her car, a baby poisined by Botchelism and a bomb. Ponch also finds time to play 'big bro' to a misunderstood teen boy.

Ponch finds himself distracted not only by the girls, but by a dog
named 'Fido'

Ponch must also go back to traffic school when he is caught making n illegal turn on the highway, watch the hilarity unfold.

Also, the boys take a trip to malibu, as well as to the bowling alley. Where it apprears that jon, although never having bowled before has quite a knack for it.

Erik estrada and Larry Wilcox are just so cute and fab, a sure fire antidote to the blues.

Having one of those days? then cheer yourself up with this feel-good show. Theres a great chemistry between the two leads as they face numerous incidents in every episode. The many confrontations between Ponch and Sgt Getraer are great fun, all the supporting cast are excellent too, in particular Sgt Getraer and Officer Grossman. all in all, this is an enjoyable police drama, with bags of good humour.

Returning to my childhood has rarely proved so pleasureable. Within minutes I was glued to the set, as in days of yore. Nothing, was going to come between me and my CHiPs; much to the consternation of other family members. That is until "forced to watch" they too were hooked.

The only thing that, for me, was missing was the upbeat theme tune. The original is too slow and does not match the title sequence well, guess that's why they changed it.
