TOP 500 REVIEWERon 1 June 2015
If you can get past the cut glass clipped delivery of dialogue from Eric Portman (personally I always find that quite difficult, yet I find him eminently watchable), and Laurence Harvey's affected speech...well you have a pretty good Police (Egyptian) proceedural film. A good plot, plenty of movement and interesting locations all help. The entire cast of characters is either Egyptian or "foreign", and (nearly) all played by stalwart British character actors. Just go with the flow. The film is all about the tracking down and capture of drug smugglers in 1950 Egypt and is based on fact. NETWORK have given us a pretty good 4.3 transfer, clear B/W picture. My soundtrack was occasionally less than perfect, but not enough to spoil my enjoyment. Not for everyone of course, but you could do far worse than give this a go if you have never seen it. (Nice to see a young John Gregson, Harold Lang and "Coco" Aslan in good roles.)

Trevor Willsmer reviewed this film in May 2016 very well. I will add that the film is worth watching for other reasons .... look at the volume of traffic on the roads when this film was made,,,, try driving around Cairo today. Veiw the old cars in pristine condition and the old boats on the Suez Canal, not a single block of flats floating on the water. Makes a change to step back in time and have a break from CGI..

I am very fond of Eric Portman, but this film lacks pace and acting in poor, Quality of locations poor, considering North Africa is so beautiful.

Always loved this movie. Worth watching for Laurence Harvey in an early supporting role. Not a great film but enjoyable in its way.

A great Eric Portman film set in the dying days of the British Empire. Portman and Laurence Harvey trying to unravel drug smuggling gang.
Excellent plot and script lead to very good action.
The best B.E. film set in another country I've seen.
