Oscar Peterson Trio - The Berlin Concert [DVD] [2007]

This Berlin concert is an ideal companion to the excellent Jazz Icons DVD of the classic Oscar Peterson Trio with Brown and Thigpen that covers the 1963-1965 period. It has the added advantage of being in colour while the sound quality and camera work are spot on. Twenty years on Peterson swings as mightily as ever with this late edition of his trio, this time with strong support from N.H.O.P. and Martin Drew. This power-packed concert is an essential addition to any jazz collection.

This whole DVD is a joy! Even though you may think, as I do, that the "real" original Oscar Peterson Trio consists of OP, Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen this recording is no less great - on the contrary.
Oscar Peterson's immense drive backed by Martin Drew's fine drumming and rhythm and NHOP's equilibristic swinging bassplaying form a synthesis. Just listen to and enjoy NHOP's playing on "Nigerian marketplace".
This is a 5 star + recording - do yourself a favour and buy it.

Some of the very best music on planet Earth. This rendition is better than the one on CD.

What a genius! Fabulous accompaniment too from the great Neils Pederson on Bass and from Martin Drew on Drums. An absolute gem of a Video.
